Spotlight on Donors

Trips for Kids is blessed with daily contributions. Below are select stories of donors who have "gone the extra mile" for Trips For Kids.

Eagle Scout Project Benefits Trips for Kids

Justin Steuber fixes bikes for TFK.For an Eagle Scout project, Justin Steuber chose to do a bike drive for Trips For Kids. Justin advertised his drive through schools, stores and Craiglist. Justin recruited volunteer help and trained them to fix the bikes. He set a goal to collect and repair 30 bikes, did just that, and donated them to Trips For Kids. Justin, we’re sure that not only did you learn a lot from your project but you contributed to TFK at the same time. THANKS JUSTIN!

Steve Banks Memorial Fund Established

Steve Banks and friendsSteve Banks (pictured far left in photo) was a San Francisco resident and avid bicyclist for over 40 years. He loved the Marin Chapter of Trips For Kids and literally outfitted a small army of family and friends with bikes purchased from the Re-Cyclery. He always looked forward to the days of taking his grandkids on long rides through the Golden Gate Park and Marin Headlands with those bicycles. So when Steve passed away on June 2, 2011, from a 3-year battle with pancreatic cancer, it seemed fitting to establish the Steve Banks Memorial Fund at Trips For Kids to continue his desire to match good people with good bikes. At his Celebration of Life Memorial, a pack of bike buddies met and rode to his service, to honor their old pal Steve. To make a donation to Trips For Kids in Steve's memory, visit Network for Good and enter "Steve Banks" in the Dedication entry field.

Steve was an art broker and a devoted cyclist. Over the years he developed an extensive collection of mountain bike memorabilia. Mountain Bike magazine recently ran a story about Steve's collection that contains a video of Steve talking about the collection and the early days of mountain biking.

Giving Feels Good

I get an allowance of $3 a week. $1 goes into my charity envelope. I now have $32. I am giving it to TFK because I want kids who don’t have bikes to learn to ride them.
