A Typical Ride Day

1. Volunteers meet at 125 Larkspur Street in San Rafael at 9:00am.
2. Volunteers load bikes and gear for kids into van for and carpool to ride site. Common ride sites are China Camp, Tennessee Valley and Phoenix Lake.
3. We meet the group of kids at 10:00am at the trailhead and set them up with bikes, helmets, gloves and water bottles.
4. We do an introduction, talk about the ride, and then head out.
5. Volunteers ride along with one or two specified kids and help them where needed (coaching them on the use of bicycles, ensuring their safety, and encouraging them. Some kids are experienced riders but many are not and need time and patience before they become comfortable with off-road riding.
6. The ride stops for lunch and a rest before heading back.
7. At the end of the ride, the group gathers in a circle and talks about their experience on the ride.
8. Volunteers return to 125 Larkspur Street to unload, sort, clean, check over, and put away the bikes and gear. We'll send you home at about 2:00 or 3:00pm!

Last minute changes do occur, so please be flexible!

Chance of Rain?

If it looks like it's going to rain, unless otherwise notified, please call your Ride Leader the evening before the ride or the morning of the ride (before 8:00am). If the ride is canceled because of weather, we often ask volunteers to help at our bike shop for a few hours. Occasionally, we try to do a hike with the kids.

By Car from SF & the South Bay

1. Take 101 North to San Rafael
2. Take the Francisco Boulevard Exit
3. Get into the middle lane
4. At the light, turn left onto Bellam
5. At the second stoplight, turn left onto Kerner and left again onto Larkspur
6. We are two blocks down on the left - look for the vans!

By Car from the East Bay

1. Take 580 West across the Richmond Bridge
2. Take the Francisco Boulevard/San Francisco-101 South Exit
3. At the light, turn right onto Bellam
4. At the second stop light, turn left onto Kerner and left again onto Larkspur
5. We are two blocks down on the left - look for the white vans!

By Car from North of San Rafael

1. Take 101 South to San Rafael
2. Take the Richmond Bridge Exit
3. Immediately after crossing over 101, take the Francisco Boulevard Exit
4. At the light, turn left onto Bellam
5. At the second stop light, turn left onto Kerner and left again onto Larkspur
6. We are two blocks down on the left - look for the white vans!
