THIS WEEK: National Youth Bike Groups Collaborate

This week, Robert joined leaders from all the national youth bicycling organizations including USA BMX, Little Bellas, Free Bikes 4 Kidz, PeopleForBikes, NICA, Safe Routes to School National Partnership, USA Cycling, and Project Bike Tech in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The group converged to share their work and develop a mutual understanding of where all organizations can work together,

including devising a plan with action steps. This is the first time we have sat down at one table together and we are excited to announce that the youth bike groups will be collaborating moving forward.

While in Arkansas, meeting attendees also took part in a pedal tour together of the area exploring a local kids bike park. Robert is pictured to the right with other attendees.

During the mini-conference Robert was also able to tour the Thaden School in Bentonville Arkansas. The school has a full-size cement pump track, they are also building a one mile single track loop around the school, and constructing a bike barn that will have 14 bike repair stations.

Thadan School currently offers both an earn a bike and bike building program.   Robert will have more to share next month on both the youth bike group meeting and Thaden School. Stay Tuned!

CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT: Sacramento in the news!

One of our newest chapters, Trips for Kids Sacramento was recently featured in their local Style Magazine - El Dorado County.

The chapter operates Discovery Trail Ride programs for youth ages 13-17 and is led by director Elle Steele.

Elle and her family live a life most die-hard cyclists aspire too. In October 2012, she transitioned into what she refers to as a "car-freedom" life. About six months later they got their first cargo bike.

In her blog Elle shares, "This bike (the cargo bike) changed our lives! Suddenly, we realized that we could do just about anything without the car and it was much more enjoyable than driving. We run errands, commute, transport our kids, groceries, and friends, go on trips, go camping, and ride around having lots of fun by bicycle."

She continues, "I love sharing the benefits of bicycling with my friends and family, as well as our greater community."

Elle we are glad you like to share too. Please go to THIS LINK to read the Style Magazine article. Visit HERE to learn more about Trips for Kids Sacramento.
