Our newest chapter directors, David Spaulding from Trips for Kids Mid-Columbia (WA), and Gregory Holler-Dinsmore from Trips for Kids Spirit of Life (MT), joined Michael and Kimberly Guzman, board members from Trips for Kids Tulare County (CA), Adam Smith, Ride Program Manager from Trips for Kids Marin (CA), Trips for Kids Executive Director, Robert Ping, and Support and Sponsorship Manager, Andy Phelps, at Giant Bicycles USA Headquarters in Newbury Park, California this past weekend for a two-day overview of Giant's Sprockids mountain bike riding skills curriculum.

Sprockids is an 8-10 week curriculum designed by Doug Detwiller in Vancouver, Canada and now owned by Giant Bicycles, to educate young people, ages 6 to 18 years, in beginning and intermediate mountain biking ride skills. The curriculum focuses on drills, games, and fun activities while tracking individual progress.

Giant Bicycles joined our Trips for Kids family last year as a Platinum level sponsor, providing new chapters with five mountain bicycles (valued at $2,000 per new chapter) along with other Giant products to be given to chapters, sold at discounted rates to chapters, and sold on our online E-commerce site.

Trips for Kids attended the overview to learn more about Sprockids, in order to determine how we can incorporate it into our upcoming turnkey program guidance.

Out in the field training.

Giant Bicycles generously hosted our Trips for Kids participants last weekend. The session was led by team members from Liv Cycling, the Giant Bicycles product line specifically designed for women.

Raphael Harris, Jaime and Brandon Baeza, chapter directors from High Desert Riders (CA) and Tulare County (CA), participated in the overview session last summer.

Stay tuned for more information about Sprockids and how it can be incorporated into Trips for Kids programming!

We recommend that all of our chapters participate in Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on Saturday, October 5, or select another date in October to ride. Whether your ride consists of three, 30 or 300 youth, this is a big opportunity for coordinated outreach and momentum for Trips for Kids around North America.

We know it takes time to coordinate a ride event and wanted to provide everyone with a "heads-up" to mark your calendars. More information to follow in the next couple of months, including marketing materials and ways to fundraise for the event. Some of you already ride on this day, and throughout October, and we hope more of you will join us this year.

If you currently have October 5 on your calendar to ride, please email Amy so she can add your chapter to our list.

One of the positive effects of pedal power are the smiles our programs create.

Saturday, June 15 is National Smile Power Day (yes, that is a real day) so get your smiles ready and share them with someone.

If you are riding or wrenching this Saturday, snap a photo or two or three and/or maybe take a few seconds of video and upload them to your social media accounts and use the hashtags: #tripsforkids #SmilePowerDay #Smile #Morekidsonbikes

Using different hashtags along with consistent ones will introduce your programming to new audiences. We'd LOVE to see your photos too so we can share them.

Happy National Smile Power Day everyone!

We are happy to hear several of you have already received your Clif Bars. Please don't forget to send us your photos!

Photos help us thank our sponsors for their generosity. Clif Bars truly appreciates seeing our youth enjoying their product.

Please email your photos to Amy or you can upload them directly to THIS Google Drive folder.

We LOVE to hear about all the good work you are doing in your communities. Please remember to tag us on your social media posts!
