School is out and summer is in full motion. Humidity high and the temperatures are rising so why on earth are we thinking of fall already? Because the early birds (and planners) get the worms AND the donors.
Historically, the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day, is also the part of the year when you may notice that several donors check-out for a few months, heading out on vacation or are involved in other activities. For those of us who work for or are part of nonprofits, these months are excellent for preparing behind the scenes for the upcoming fall campaign season. It provides time to:
- Developing your outreach strategy and target list of potential donors for campaign
- Research background on potential new donors
- Determine your campaign messaging
- Determine your communication and cultivation plans
- Collect stories and content to support your messaging
The thought of fundraising can cause absolute shudders down people's spines, but it is a necessary part of a nonprofits life cycle. Some of you have or are already beginning to create your end of year fundraising campaign. Those of you who work with affiliates may receive a funding stream through that organization, but we know some of you also depend on various fundraising resources to maintain your programming.
