She Chose to Change Kids' Lives Two Wheels at a Time and YOU can too!

Marilyn's crusade begins...

Marilyn Price established Trips for Kids because she knew that pedaling through natural environments would encourage children to explore the outskirts of their urban neighborhoods and cultivate respect and understanding for the great outdoors. She was also aware that riding with other fun-loving youth allows children to establish meaningful relationships while also building their self-confidence.

“It really tore at my heart when I would ask kids how many had ever even been away from the city and not many hands were ever raised," Marilyn shared. Not in her nature to sit idly by, Marilyn decided to roll up her sleeves and do something, and in 1987 she took six kids, six rental bikes and two volunteers on a bike trail ride in California’s scenic Point Reyes National Seashore.

"In the late eighties there were no similar programs operating that we knew of so we felt we could potentially become a model for others,” reminisced Marilyn. That day long ago changed Marilyn’s path, and in 1988 Trips for Kids was born.

Three decades later...

Marilyn’s vision has evolved into multiple programs carried out by a vast network of chapters across North America. Marilyn believes that our Discovery Trail/Adventure Club Rides and Earn-a-Bike workshops "plant a seed" for our youth that continues to grow - for thousands of youth each year. “To me, this goal of getting more kids on bikes and connected to nature is even more important today then it was back then," shares Marilyn.

Other efforts to get kids active on bikes have sprung up since Marilyn’s first ride with kids in 1987: Safe Routes to School began in 1997 with Bike & Walk to School Day and the first Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day began in 2004.

Help us celebrate Marilyn's birthday and get more kids riding!

This year Walk and Bike to School Day is Wednesday, October 2 and Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is Saturday, October 5, but one day this week especially stands out for all of us at Trips for Kids - Marilyn's 79th birthday - which takes place on October 4!

Please let Marilyn know how important you feel it is to connect youth to riding and wrenching by making a contribution today in her honor.

Your gift will help us continue to plant even more seeds of inspiration with today’s youth, and together we can change kids' lives, two wheels at a time. Thank you!
