Special events you hold during the year (do you offer open houses, have fundraising events, etc.):

We provide tours of our Charlotte Re-Cyclery to many groups. We have annual fundraisers with breweries, restaurants, spinning facilities, etc. We participate annually in Giving Tuesday. We are the beneficiary of a couple of Charlotte cycling events. We have a number of unique fundraisers…currently, we are the beneficiary of an online raffle for a Tesla car and several foundations have chosen us as their nonprofit to highlight in some way and donate to.  Numerous businesses have teambuilding sessions that involve a bike build and the bikes are donated to us

Do you have a chapter wish-list? What products, services, or technical assistance are you in need of? Do you need more volunteers? Please provide information that we can share with folks.

-Always in need of all types/sizes gently used bikes

-Beginning to look for a new full-time paid Executive Director to come on board in late 2018/early 2019

Why did you choose to become part of the Trips For Kids family?: (feel free to include a quote or story of our blog).

As an athlete, life-long cyclist, former middle school teacher and coach, who found my way into the business world, I was always looking for a way to combine my sports interest, with my love of working with kids and my business experience. One night while listening to the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, I heard a story on a kids’ biking program in San Francisco that a woman named Marilyn Price started called Trips for Kids and thought this is it!  I tracked down Marilyn and began a communication that lasted for several years until she wrote a “how to” book on starting a chapter. Several of us in Charlotte got together and started Trips for Kids Charlotte with a few rides and a plan to duplicate the three components of the Marin chapter.

Please share a video link if you have one. Professional video done by Johnson and Johnson Inc. on our entire program   video of 2017

Do you have a program participant you would like to spotlight? Please include just their first name, age, brief background story.

Rogelio is now 17 and a High School senior.  He began riding with us as a shy 6th grader, became hooked and remains involved with TFKC. His passion for biking grew as he earned his bike in the EAB class, took our adult mechanics class and built his own bike, was chosen by the Dirt Divas (women’s mountain biking club) to receive a brand new Trek mountain bike, began racing on a NICA team, volunteers at the Re-Cyclery, was chosen by TFKC to join the Two Wheels summer trip to Argentina and is in our College Scholarship Program! There is no aspect of our program he hasn’t participated in, successfully completed and loved.

Please provide us with a few photos to share. (Chapter Photo -prefer group photos, but can also be photo of kid, volunteer, chapter director and a location shot.)

All of our best shots are in the 2017 video above.
